Women make up a larger segment of the voting population than any other electoral cohort. And yet, women are grossly under-represented, at every level, in our government.
"We Love Soaps" is proud to be one of the media outlets chosen to partner with LIFETIME TELEVISION to shine a light on this issue and help trumpet a non-partisan message that encourages women to vote on (or before!) this Tuesday, November 6, 2012.
In fact, the epic, new public service announcement is a "tour de force" featuring appearances by Susan Lucci, Condeleeza Rice, Cybil Shepherd, Eva Longoria, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Loretta Devine and Meghan McCain. Through powerful imagery, it also references many American heroes of the past, from Rosa Parks to Amelia Earhart. Please take a moment to view the PSA, below, and share it with the important women in your life.
From the PSA:
"Bold. Courageous. Outspoken. Whether they stepped onto a podium, or refused to get off a bus, these women made a difference. "
"They paved the way. They changed our nation. But the work is not done yet. Out numbers in elected office rank us 90th in the world. And we account for less than four percent of Fortune 500 CEOs."
"There's a long way to go, but you can stand up. You can influence public opinion. You can help shape the future. You have a voice. Use it."
"Run for office. Cast your ballot. Speak your mind. Because this is the land where anything can happen. "
"This is your life. This is your time. This is your vote. "
The Lifetime initiative does not end there. They link to a HANDY FORM you can use to ask a woman you know to run for office. They provide an attractive VOTER GUIDE. And, they even produced and distributed hundreds of very nifty ELECTION NIGHT PARTY KITS to "Lifetime Television" fans around the country.
"We Love Soaps" will be live-blogging the election Tuesday night, and our antics will be brought to you by Republicans, Democrats, and "Lifetime Telvision". Fair warning: the party kit includes cocktail glasses, a cocktail shaker, fun coasters and cocktail mix!
If we could get a little philosophical for just a moment - it's our job to make our reader's lives a bit fuller, a bit more fun, and maybe even a bit more meaningful. But we also care very deeply about Democracy and America. No matter who you are and who you choose, on behalf of all of us at "We Love Soaps", we thank you in advance for exercising your sacred right, for educating yourself about the issues and the politicians, and for voting this Tuesday, November 6, 2012.
